COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
What is an RPG?
RPG, or Role Playing Games, are games in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. We use tabletop based games which incorporate dice, mats, and miniature characters to represent fictional, imaginary places, events, and characters.
How do you play online?
We typically meet in person. However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic we are changing our format. We have now created a few, short run, online games. We will meet together initially in a face to face platform (zoom), and then for actual game play move to a specialized format in addition to zoom. We use an established online RPG game platform for our program. We have set up secure, private worlds created specifically for each game. There is no additional cost for this service, it is a free online RPG platform.
How do the games work?
A table, or group, consists of 5-8 participants of similar age. This allows us to fully customize the game to the interests, abilities, and skills of that particular group. For in person games this is a 2 session process. First, the table meets together to discuss what kind of world they wish to game. We offer game themes in space, steampunk, detective, fantasy, cyberpunk, and more. After that, students meet to set up their own individual character. Once these two sessions are completed, the world has been created, the characters decided, and the game begins. Where it ends is up to the participants to discover. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have altered our games to an online format. This has, necessarily, changed the way our games operate. We have switched to mini games designed to run 8 weeks. You register for a particular game theme (fantasy, cyber punk, history, etc) with a world created and ready for you to join. The first meeting is designed for players to meet each other, choose characters, and receive the call to adventure. After that, the adventure is up to the players.
Where do the games come from?
Our games are all custom written by the Gamemaster, Ben Tate. He has over 25 years experience in tabletop gaming. From participation to game development, Ben has extensive experience in role playing games. Typically the in the first session participants meet with our Gamemaster to discuss the type of adventure they'd like to have and the kind of characters they'd like to become. Based on the results of the initial meeting, Ben writes and develops a game with the interest of the participants and incorporates game mechanics that fit their abilities.
How long are games?
Games typically run about 4 hours. We meet 2-3 times a month. A campaign generally last about 10 months. Online games are also 4 hours; however, they meet weekly and last about 8 weeks.
What is included in the cost?
Our program bills monthly at a cost of $70 per month. This includes 2-3 game sessions a month, a bag of dice, a folder with any needed printouts, and a custom miniature of your character.
Online games are billed at a one time cost of $200. This includes 8 game sessions and a custom built online game world. Using an online format means all game materials are stored digitally.
How do I register?
Simply fill out the form and we will contact you to arrange day/time for game sessions. We recognize how busy life is and coordinating schedules can be difficult. We try our best to accommodate that based on participant schedules. Online games are preset days and times. Once we receive your registration we will send you a link for a zoom meeting and a link to the online world. This protects the privacy of our participants.
